Abstract: | The development of futuristic energy has become the majorconcern in recent years due to alarming rate of pollution. Although fossil fuelsplay a major role in providing global energy demands, the combustion offossil fuels produce tons of greenhouse gases and creates major environmentand health issues. Hydrogen is a clean and sustainable form of energy and it isthe best alternative fuel for the future to overcome this situation. At presenthydrogen is produced by steam reforming of natural gases, but this processinvolves large amount of CO2 emission. Solar hydrogen production canalleviate energy and environmental issues and significantly reduces the fossilfuel consumption. Water supplies plentiful hydrogen by water splitting.Electrolysis of water using solar cell, photo-electrochemical water splittingand photocatalytic water splitting are the routes available to produce hydrogenusing sunlight and water. Photocatalytic water splitting has attracted manyresearchers due to its simplicity. The photocatalyst dispersed in water absorbssunlight and split water into hydrogen and oxygen. newline |
