Analysis of certain discrete andContinuous time queueingModels subject to disaster

Abstract

The transient and steady-state analysis of various discrete andcontinuous-time Markovian queueing models associated with system disaster(also called as Catastrophes), two stage service, maintenance and close-downperiod are discussed in this thesis analytically. Numerical illustrations are alsopresented for some models.A state-dependent discrete-time queue with system disaster isanalyzed and the time-dependent probabilities are derived in a closed formusing generating function and continued fraction. Further, the busy perioddistribution for both state-dependent and state-independent discrete-time queuesare presented. Numerical results are investigated to illustrate the systembehavior and impact of system parameters. In order to gain more insight of themodel behavior, some important performance measures such as mean, varianceand busy period distribution are also provided numerically. newline
