Achievement discrepancy between students of the Government and the Private newlinesecondary schools in the HSC examination in Odisha has been a hot topic of media newlinedebate over the last few decades. The significantly better performance of the private newlineschools over the Government schools raised many criticisms against the later. Many newlineexperts explain such difference in achievement of students of the two school systems in newlineterms of differences in parental factors, more particularly involvement of parents in newlineeducation of their wards. However little empirical data on how parents of students in newlineboth school systems are involved in education of their children is available. Research newlinestudies on Parent Involvement (PI)and Academic Achievement conducted in foreign newlinecountries revealed positive relationship between Achievement and Parental newlineInvolvement (Castro, Expósito-Casas, , López-Martín, , Lizasoain, Navarro-Asencio, , newlineandGaviria,2015; Jeynes, 2012; Roberts and Vukovic,2011; Hill and Tyson,2009; newlineWhite,2008; Desforges and Abouchaar, 2003; Fan and Chen,1999 and Hara and newlineBurke,1998). The research problem on this backdrop was raised: how are the parents newlineof students in different school systems in Odisha are involved in education of their newlinechildren; what are the democratic features of parent involvement, and how parents newlineinvolvement influence academic achievement of students in Odisha? newline
