dc.description.abstract | This study is focused on identifying agricultural residues suitable for possible utilization as natural fiber reinforcement in polymer composites. Two varieties of fibers (Castor and Pigeon pea fiber) were introduced as reinforcement materials in polyester matrix composites. The source of castor fiber and pigeon pea fiber are available abundantly as agricultural residues in India. The castor fiber and pigeon pea fibers are extracted from their barks using water retting process. The physical, chemical, mechanical and thermal properties of extracted fibers were investigated experimentally and compared with already existing fibers. The scanning electron microscopy images show the surface morphology and cross sectional area of extracted fibers. newline | |
