Abstract: Emergency situations and casualty management are unavoidable in human life. The fast pace of life, development of new technologies and urbanization can affect the equilibrium of the ecosystem which can lead to natural as well as manmade disasters. Proper and timely administration of the drug is very important to reduce morbidity and mortality especially in emergency conditions. Autoinjector is such a device which can administer drug in a very rapid manner conveniently. Autoinjectors are available for some of the medical emergencies. However in the outbreak of an infection or in case of man -made or natural calamity, as such there is no antibiotic autoinjector available as of now for ready and immediate use. In this study, the biochemical parameters, the oxidative stress parameters and histological alterations in the liver and kidney of Wistar rats administered with amikacin by autoinjectors and with manual injection was studied and then the effectiveness of amikacin administered through autoinjectors and manual injection in infected excision wound model of Wistar rats and the haematological and biochemical parameters in New Zealand white rabbits administered with amikacin autoinjectors and manual injection were also studied. The study showed that autoinjector is safe for the administration of amikacin intraperitoneally in rat model and by intramuscularly in rabbit model. The infection study showed its effectiveness to heal the infected wound. Hence, the dual mode autoinjector device of amikacin will be of definite help in emergency situations to tackle infection till the victim gets proper medical care. Amikacin autoinjector would be convenient to use in emergency situations like injuries and outbreak of infections in natural and man-made disasters to reduce the morbidity and mortality. Amikacin autoinjectors can be opted in the first aid kit for the use of military, paramilitary and also for veterinary use.
