Textile wastewater treatment by iron nanoparticles and integrating electrokinetics for textile wastewater contaminated soil remediation

Abstract

At present, the world is facing water quality crisis and industrialization has augmented the illegal discharge of contaminated water to the environment. Textile is one of such industry in the world and during wet processing the industry generates large amount of colored wastewater. The conventional physicochemical and biological treatment is insufficient to decolorize textile wastewater, as the dyes are recalcitrant and non-biodegradable and the advanced treatment techniques also have several drawbacks. Hence, the discharge of untreated wastewater into nearby environment is very common in textile industries and it poses major threats to the environment worldwide. Similar situation was observed for the last three decades along Noyyal River in Tiruppur, Southern India and the discharge of textile wastewater into the river drastically contaminated the environment. newline
