Indian leather industry is one of the top ten foreign exchange earners of the country. The footwear sector acts as the engine for the growth of the Indian leather sector. India is the second-largest producer of footwear in the world and about 95% of the country s production caters to meet its own domestic demand. Nevertheless, the footwear exports constitute about 48 to 51% of the total leather and leather products exports of the country for the past four years. Globalization, unpredictable supply and demand pattern, variability in variety and volume, dynamic business trends, variable lead time, divergent inventory and cost management of the footwear industry demand effective management of supply chain, in order to be sustainable and competitive. The nature of the industry, growth prospects of the sector, and competitions from other countries necessitates improvement in the supply chain performance across the value chain of the Indian footwear sector. The non-availability of adequate implementation guidelines specific to the leather footwear sector deters the sector from reaping the advantages of supply chain management strategies. Analyzing and understanding the impact of supply chain management practices on the performance of the leather footwear sector supply chain is the primary purpose of this study. The supply chain operational performance indicates the efficiency and flexibility of the organization. Service level improvement, flexibility enhancement, uncertainty minimization, delivery speed, quick response, information accuracy, cost efficiency, lead-time reduction, quality consistency, delivery reliability, and technical competency are considered as the supply chain operational performance (SCOP) measures in the study newline
