Abstract: The rising new technologies started familiarizing by the means of the platform named Internet that has become the most basic amenities in this era. Internet has always been constructively regarded as fast medium of communication that facilitate in online shopping, online booking, e-learning and e-payment. All these facilities were most convenient, highly resourceful and economical with social benefits. Beyond these merits of internet uses there are criticisms encircling its negative effects that are rapidly growing. In this study examines the level of internet addiction and its Implications on Psychosocial aspects of Adolescents studying in higher educational institutions of Thanjavur City, Tamilnadu, India. The universe of the present study is 10062 students from I and II year of there 7 colleges were located in the study area of Thanjavur city. In the first stage by using simple random sampling method from each College 3 departments were selected using lottery methods. In the second stage researcher has selected 370 respondents from the universe by using Krejcie and Morgan (1970) table for sample size determination. From the selected three departments and to attain 370 final respondents 17 students were taken as the respondents using systematic random sampling method by giving equal chance to all the respondents. The researcher used Self-administrated questioner, Semi-structured focus group discussion and case study, Internet Addiction Scale by Young Kimberly -1998 and Media andTechnology Usage Attitute Scale (MTUAS) by Dr.Larryrosen, 2013 for the data collection. The researcher has applied chi square test, Z test and for statistical analysis. The Findings of the study reveals that the majority of the respondents experiencing occasional or frequent problems because of the internet. Most of the respondents were spending too much of time, too much of for internet, they also unnecessarily do access the internet without any purpose.
