Abstract: | Power electronic converters (PEC) are gaining massive interestsince several decades owing to the requirement of tightly regulated powersupplies with fast transient response and high power density. As the density ofintegration of electronic devices becomes higher owing to use of applicationspecific IC (ASIC), the possibility of building up of interference increases newlinerapidly. In addition, PECs generate power quality and electromagnetic (EMI)issues due to inherent switching characteristics leading to high electrical stresson devices. The problem of EMI is also generated through metallic coupling, fast switching or bad construction of the circuit. Applications involving DCDCconverter are mostly prone to interference as they are susceptible tospurious signals which cause high switching losses, switching stress andElectromagnetic Interference (EMI) levels. The manifestation of EMI pollutesthe environment as well as the utility grid hence suppression through varioustechniques are required. The goal of the proposed work is to meet the EMI regulations whilenot disturbing other applications nearby. The power supply should also beself-compliant and tolerate a certain amount of EMI generated externally orinternally. The work explores the study on the effect of EMI in switchedmode power supplies and their suppression techniques and the intent is to givethe power supply designer a good understanding about the problem andoverview on EMI mitigation measures that can be taken while designing andtesting the power supply, to improve quality of the product and to come upwith robust design. The effect of EMI generated newline newline |
