Abstract

Social leadership means to devote one s life and talents from a leading position to newlineimproving society, in all its aspects regardless of social standing, wealth, gender or newlineprivilege and taking everybody (strong or weak) along using democratic means to newlinetranscend beyond the limited, physical realities especially towards its higher level of newlinemeaning, relationship, calling, action, integrity, learning and a life of freedom with an newlineaim of providing an emancipated and empowered life for all members of the society newlinefor whom the leader promised empowerment. newline SOCIAL here stands for the acronym of Submission, Oneness, Calling, Integral newlineEducation, Action and Liberty. These six variables together constitute the meaning of newlinesocial leadership. Since the leadership is attributed with these values, it is known as newlinesocial leadership. newlineThe Primary source is the book, Social Leadership: A Fresh Vision For Old Problems newlineby Center for Social Leadership ( 2009 ) from where the researcher began his research newlinejourney onto finding the ultimate traits of a good social leader and to understand the newlinecomplex gamut of social leadership that brings about social empowerment. Along newlinewith those six values, Managerial functions, Big 5 personality traits and 10 newlinesocialization traits were added to design to questionnaire to find the social leadership newlinetraits for social empowerment. newlineThis research proves that the social leadership model is influencing the social newlineempowerment. In short, it is a search for a leadership model to identify and find out newlinehow in reality a leader is formed towards the social empowerment. In a special way newlinealso it is to find a leader in ourselves who will be active to solve the global problems. newlineThe 409 respondents were conveniently chosen from the social movements among 4 newlinedistricts of Tamil Nadu namely Chennai, Coimbatore, Thanjavur and Kanyakumari.
