Abstract: The title of the study is A study on language skills with respect of newlinepsychological, sociological and environmental factors among higher secondary newlinestudents . Factors like psychological, environmental and sociological contribute to the process of language acquaintance. Keeping in view the importance of English language, the barriers and problems faced by the students in acquiring English language and the influence of psychological, sociological and environmental factors on language learning the investigator has made an earnest attempt to study the influence of psychological, social and environmental factors in language skills among the higher secondary students and to assess the present status of language skills of students at the end of their school education. newlineThe objective of the study is to study the language skills, influence of psychological factors, sociological and environmental factors, and also to study the influence of personal and institutional variables among higher secondary students. A normative survey method was used to collect data. A stratified sampling technique was used for the selection of samples of students. The sample consists of XI standard students studying in different managements of schools of Kanchipuram district in Tamil Nadu. A total of 477 students constitute the sample of the present study. The dependent variables of the study are language skills and the independent variables are psychological factors, sociological factors, environmental factors and personal and institutional variables. The Hypotheses are framed relations with dependent and Independent Variables. newlineThe tools administrated in the study are personal data, institutional data, language activity test, English language proficiency test, multidimensional personality inventory, socio-economic status scale, family environment scale and school environment inventory. The tools were given to the XI standard students and collected the data.
