Analysis and Simulation Studies on the Application of Space Polarisation Frequency Reuse Techniques of Antennas for the Performance Enhancement of Mobile Ad hoc Networks MANETs

Abstract

This thesis presents analytical and simulation studies on the application of three Space reuse techniques (Space Frequency (SF), Space Polarisation (SP) and Space Polarisation Frequency (SPF)) of antennas for the throughput enhancement of MANETs (Mobile Ad hoc Networks). Contrary to the earlier studies which focused only on directional mode, the emphasis of this thesis is on the antenna configurations for the three reuse techniques in omnidirectional as well as in mixed mode comprising both directional and omnidirectional. The significant original contribution of this thesis is the application of Space Polarisation Frequency (SPF) reuse technique in MANET. Simulation studies on SPF in omni mode using four independent paths reveal a throughput improvement factor of 3.91 and 3.92 in refined directional mode (ideal factor being 4) relative to a single path. Simulation studies using SF or SP in omni mode using two independent paths reveal a throughput improvement factor of 1.95 to 1.98 (ideal factor being 2). This compares favourably with the earlier published results of (1.85 to 2) with SP in directional mode.
