Abstract: | Cutting of difficult to machine materials inherently generates high heat, which not only increases tool wear but also impairs product surface quality. Better surface finish and higher material removal are the main goals of the machining industry. Most of the metal cutting industries use cutting fluids to control heat generation in the machining zone. The approach of the cryogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) and liquid nitrogen (LN2) as the coolants in the different cutting process like milling, grinding and turning enables useful improvements in the generation of a surface without thermal damage due to efficient control of heat generation. In the present study, end milling experiments were carried out on aluminium (Al 6082-T6) alloy with uncoated carbide cutting inserts, and DIN 1.2714 die steel with TiAlN coated carbide cutting inserts under dry, wet, cryogenic CO2 and LN2 cooling approaches. Workpieces were end milled at different feed rates (0.01 mm/tooth, 0.015 mm/tooth and 0.02 mm/tooth) and cutting speeds (100 m/min, 125 m/min and 150 m/min) with constant axial end mill depth (1 mm) and radial end mill depth (16 mm). newline |
