The automotive industry, today, is focusing on the reduction of emissions, reduction of fuel consumption, higher rate of engine performance and improving the durability of engine components. Hence, commercial affordability and environmental anxieties have required exploring new ways to improve the efficiency of automotive engines. The automotive engine manufacturers have given their priorities and focus on surface coating with various components of the engines due to the decrease in fuel energy along with useful lifespan of the sliding components. Increasing the performance of the Internal Combustion engines may play a significant role in decreasing worldwide emissions and offer customers better fuel economy. Literature surveys show that, in diesel engines about 15% of fuel power is lost because of friction between the contacting mechanical components in relative movement in the engine, especially 6% fuel power losses in the engine valve due to friction. Hence, a slight improvement in the energy efficiency of Compression Ignition (CI) engines can cause an enormous and positive effect on the conservation of fuels. Meanwhile, the minimization of harmful emissions has become imperative because even as the energy efficiency is improved. newline
