Abstract: Advancement and rapid development in Information andCommunication Technology (ICT) with hand-held computing devices havebrought revolution in the area of mobile communication. Demand forinfrastructure-less and quickly deployable mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET)across the globe have not only impacted the civilian society but also newlineorganizations such as Armed Forces. Self-organizing, self-creating and selfadministrating newlinenature of MANET offers unique benefits for a variety ofapplications and plays a vital role in military settings. In the regionsdeploying MANET as a pre-planned infrastructure is not required, it enablesto coordinate and establish communication for tactical operations in no time.Despite their uniqueness, mobile ad-hoc networks generate newchallenges and pr decentralizedarchitecture and dynamic topology makes the network face extreme challenge newlinein terms of Quality of Service (QoS). Data and voice communication amongstroaming battle-field entities served by MANETs in the military regions hasattracted the network to encounter a wide variety of Quality of service issuescaused due to imprecise state information, variable capacity, scalability, timevaryingtopology etc., It has also led to quite a number of other challengesthat are still open such as mobility management, effective routing, mediumaccess control, quality of service etc.,Tackling each of these challenges in MANET is a multi-layerproblem which necessitates efficient design requirements to allow a highdegree of network availability, reliability, survivability and manageability. newline newline
