dc.description.abstractIn this thesis, a design of decentralized load frequency controllers for newlinederegulated power systems with non-linearities is proposed for the Load newlineFrequency Control (LFC) problem under the deregulated environment. Load newlinefrequency control is an important issue in power system operation and control newlinefor supplying sufficient and reliable electric power with good quality. LFC is newlinetreated as an ancillary service, which is essential for maintaining the electrical newlinesystem reliability at an adequate level. The system has been tested with physical newlineconstraints incorporated with Governor Dead Band (GDB) and Generation newlineRate Constraints (GRC) non-linearities. The modelling of two area power newlinesystems such as hydro-thermal, gas-thermal and wind-diesel power systems newlineconnected by tie-lines are constituted for system design and analysis purpose. newlineIn a deregulated power system, a Distribution company (Disco) may contract newlineseparately with Generation companies (Gencos) or Independent Power newlineProducers (IPPs) for power trading in different areas. The concept of Disco Participation Matrix (DPM) has been formulated for bilateral contracts. The conventional controllers like Proportional Plus Integral (PI) and Proportional Plus Integral Plus Derivative newlineControllers (PID) have been used and their optimum gain values Kp, Ki, andKd newlineare obtained based on Integral Square Error (ISE) criterion. This ensures the newlinerestoration of frequency and regulation of the tie-line powers to their nominal newlinevalues in the shortest possible time. newline newline
