dc.description.abstract | In the globalized business environment, road transport plays a vitalrole in the standard of living of people and economic growth of the nations.Modern road vehicle engines are manufactured with high power densityinternal combustion engines. The high power density engines, stringent. emission norms, steep rise in fuel price, depletion of fossil fuels, increasedroad traffic due to increased vehicle population, urged the researchers to find newlinea radiator with superior heat transfer behavior.Among the many ways explored by different researchers forenhancing the performance of automobile radiator, using nanofluid is the bestway which effectively improves the coolant side heat transfer coefficient, overall heat transfer coefficient and heat transfer. Nanofluids are the colloidalsuspension of metal or metal oxide nano particles in a base fluid. Normallythe base fluid used for automobile radiators is water or water, ethylene glycolmixture. The concentration of nano particles in nanofluid affects the stabilityof nano particles. The stability of nanofluids can be increased by addingsurfactants. In the first stage of the research, thermo physical properties of newlinenanofluids of aluminium oxide (Al2O3), copper oxide (CuO), ferric oxide(Fe2O3), titanium oxide (TiO2), silica oxide (SiO2) and fly ash nanofluid with0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8%, 1%, 1.5% and 2% nano particles in base fluid (60%water + 40% ethylene glycol) were predicted by substituting their nanoparticle properties in the referred, proved mathematical models. Theinfluences of temperature on thermo physical properties were also estimatedfor 40-95OC temperature range by using mathematical models. The predicted newlinethermo physical properties were compared and fly ash nanofluid was chosenas a best nanofluid for automobile radiator cooling applications. newline newline | |
