Abstract: newlineIn our day to day life consumption of electrical power has rapidly increased mainly due to Adjustable Speed Drives ASD and automation in industries and in the domestic regions which increase the concern of power quality in power system The quality of power received in the distribution systems is affected reduced because of the losses in the transmission system The losses in the transmission system are mitigated by using Flexible AC Transmission System FACTS controllers Among these controllers Unified Power Flow Controller UPFC plays a vital role in controlling the active and reactive power of the power system The conventional topology of UPFC consists of ACDC converter and energy stored in the DC link and DCAC converter injecting voltage and current to the system which does both active and reactive power compensation For this a new topology named 3x3 matrix converter based UPFC MCUPFC is proposed to accomplish the required taskTo investigate the performance of MCUPFC control techniques such as direct power control fuzzy logic control FLC and artificial neural network ANN based control are developed and tested in the power system as explained through few case studies The real power flow control is observed through matlab simulink simulation software the system performance is measured through response time and total harmonic distortion THD It is found that FLC based controller provides better performance in terms of response time and THD in compensating the active and reactive power flow of the power system
