Abstract: Energy is an important input ingredient for the economicdevelopment of a country, and it is derived from several sources. The mostpopular non-traditional energy resource is a solar energy which converts solar energy or solar irradiance to electricity. The PhotoVoltaic (PV) technology hasgrown to become one of the most promising renewable energy technologiesby the significant investment of private and government agencies, with apotential to impact the electric power generation mix in the near future.India needs to focus on developing its own energy resources. Our major energy sources, oil and coal, are imported in large quantities. Even with the development of nuclear energy, India has to be dependent on other nations for fuel. In order to sustain economic growth, to come out of the energy deficit situation and ensure that energy is available in every town and village, India is in need of generating power using renewable energy. In this research standalone solar energy power system is analyzed for water pumping application. Performance improvement of PV system by improving performance of PV panel and by improving performance of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) controller are analyzed in this research.Performance improvement of PV panel is analyzed by various configurations of PV array such as series connection, series parallel, bridge link and Total Cross Tied. Performance all configurations are analyzed in the aspects of voltage and power using Matlab/Simulink. Effective Total cross tied configuration is proposed for further analysis. newline
