dc.description.abstract | The Scheduled Castes in India have been the victims of Discrimination and Social exclusion along with living under poverty and multiple deprivations. The SCs in Karnataka form a sizable part with 17 per cent of the State s Population and more than 75 per cent of them are living in rural areas. They have continued to be socially, educationally and economically backward even today. SCs suffer from limited access to capital assets and employment opportunities, low share in non-farm activities, greater dependency on wage labour, lower daily wages, etc. compared with non SCs. Therefore, the comprehensive study on Discrimination, Social Exclusion and Poverty of Scheduled Castes in Karnataka: A Case Study from Mysore District , has been undertaken, the objectives of the study are to examine the nature of inter and causal relationship between discrimination and poverty among scheduled castes, to study the livelihood options for scheduled castes in farm and non-farm employment sectors, to document socio-economic conditions of scheduled castes in the study area, to develop effective inclusive policy strategies for better socio-economic development of scheduled castes. newline | |
