The replacement of fossil fuel through renewable resources is the need of the hour to reduce environmental pollution. Biodiesel is one of the renewable sources of energy to replace fossil fuel but its properties are influenced by the fatty acid composition, production process, atmospheric and tropical conditions. NOx emissions are the major threat in biodiesel fuelled engines due to fuel bound oxygen and presence of double bonds in their molecular structure. An attempt has been made here to reduce the biodiesel NOx emission by varying the saturation level with the help of an approach called Bio-mix . Bio-mix is a simple method to improve the saturation level by decreasing unsaturated fatty acid composition. In this investigation, the Raw Bio-Mix Oil (RBMO) was derived from the raw mixture of edible and non-edible oils and transesterified to form Bio-Mix Methyl Ester (BMME). Five samples of BMME fuel were prepared, BMME-1 from the ternary mixture of raw oil feedstock: Jatropha, Cottonseed and Palm oil, BMME-2 from the mixture of two raw oil feedstock: waste cooking oil (Palm), and pig fat, BMME-3 from the ternary mixture of raw oil feedstock: Jatropha, Karanja and Cottenseed oil, BMME-4 from the quaternary mixture of raw oil feedstock: Jatropha, Karanja, Palm and Coconut Oils, and BMME-5 from the quaternary mixture of raw oil feedstock s; Mahua indica, Neem, Palm and Pig fat respectively. newline newline
