Abstract: | Ultra-wideband (UWB) an emerging technology promises greater bandwidth reduced multipath fading and low power requirements. Use of UWB in commercial applications, industrial applications and in research has gained much significance in recent years. In this thesis, design and characterization of three different types of planar antennas for use in 4.4 GHz is analysed. The planar antennas designed in this thesis are based on metamaterial, slot and MIMO system respectively will employ at 4.4 GHz. Objective is to design two filters to reject at 3.5 and 4.4 GHz and three radiating antennas to resonate at 4.4 GHz with improved parameters. This designed UWB frequency is extensively used in military and fixed mobile services, point-to-point microwave, drone vehicle control and telemetry. This band is extensively utilized by Department of Energy for telemetry, video, and mobile communications and lesser known anti-terrorist Nuclear Emergency Search Team (NEST). Metamaterials applied to antenna design system improves bandwidth, ensures compact and easy design, possible miniaturization multi frequency band antennas and enhanced power gain. Cavity backed antennas offers the best solution to various recent research in enhancement of bandwidth and gain. Hence ARSA is the natural choice for bandwidth enhancement. This thesis finds ways to use a UWB frequency at 4.4 GHz. It incorporates two stop bands at 3.5 and 4.4 GHz by modelling the metamaterial and radiators at 4.4 GHz using two designed antennas, annular slot antenna and MIMO. newline |
