Abstract: | Mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) are the collection of two or more nodes can communicate with each other without the help of network infrastructure. Mobile nodes are free from moving any direction. Hence there may be frequently link break happened. The difficult task in mobile ad-hoc network is periodically maintains its route information. Finding path for routing with minimum overhead and fast reconfiguring of broken path is difficult to achieve. Due to the lack of infrastructure and dynamic nature, providing Quality of Service (QoS) is the challenging task in MANETs. Bandwidth reservation required for complex protocols. Unlike traditional networks, the QoS parameters are characterized by the requirements of multimedia data transfer in ad-hoc networks to QoS requirements are more powered by resources constraint of the nodes like battery charge, processing power and buffer space. Support for Real-time traffic is another issue in MANETs. Cross layer design is suitable approach for providing QoS in MANETs, but traditional layered approach is designed for wired network. It is difficult to provide QoS guarantee in ad-hoc networks with limited bandwidth and dynamic topology, but in cross layer monitor is a logical entity to collect network state information like end-to-end throughput, application layer QoS requirements, latency, node throughput of link layer, remaining bandwidth in real-time newline |
