Abstract: | In bonded abrasive applications, about one third of a grinding wheel is newlinerequired for clamping. This portion remains unusable after the grinding wheel newlineis consumed. However, this portion has virgin abrasives which can be used newlinefor grinding. The challenge is to recover the grains from the spent wheel, newlinesegregate the grain from the bond and to take stock of the property changes newlinethat might have happened during vitrification. If these can be done newlineeffectively, then the grain, initially declared as waste, can be used for various newlineabrasive products and applications. The accidental toughening of brown newlinealumina during vitrification can also be used advantageously in resinoid and newlinecoated applications. In coated abrasive discs, after usage, the used disc is of two types - (1) as edge used disc with usable abrasives in the remaining portion or (2) as newline fully used discs, with only the backing that can be recycled. Recovering the newlineunused abrasives and the backing from used discs can lead to recycling of newlineprecious material. This also reduces pollution. newline newline |
