Abstract: | newline DC-DC converters are front end power supply for most of consumer, medical electronics devices. Switched mode power supply (SMPS) is a modified version of DC-DC converter which is the main power supply for Desk top, Lap top, LED bulbs etc.The DC link voltage in Renewable energy sources, Battery charging in Electrical Hybrid Vehicle (EHV) also requires DC-DC converters. Most common on board voltages on consumer and medical electronics are 3.3V, 5V, 6V and 12 V. Buck converters are essential power supply with high-quality, reliable, efficient adaptive and compact in size, however they will have considerable switching and power losses. Closed loop control techniques are employed to achieve smooth DC output voltage which resulted in under damped responses. The power converter requires very tight output voltage regulation under changing supply and load conditions. This enforces challenge of very good controller to meet the parameter variations. Conventional PID controllers use single loop voltage control in the feedback loop. The parameter variations, large supply and load variations, non-linearity in the converter operation makes PID controllers are not suitable. The ideal characteristic of a controller is to operate at an infinite switching frequency while tracking reference signal to achieve the better performance both dynamic as well as steady state operation. This extreme switching frequency power converters leads to high switching losses, core losses in inductor and transformer, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) problems. newline newline |
