dc.description.abstractIn these days, the study and research on women s life, status and role in Indian History has become a subject of wide concern. The study of history of any country is incomplete without understanding the role and position of women, who constituting half of the population. newlineNo doubt, huge work has been carried out on the various aspects of Indian women by numerous scholars and historians. It appears that there is no need of doing further research on this vast subject. However the purpose of the present study is without any doubt carries great importance. The present study seeks to explore and examine most but neglected aspect related changing role and position of Indian women during period from 1829 to 1950. This period is very important for Indian women, because many initiatives were taken in this period for their upliftment. The present study seeks to explore and examine most but neglected aspect related changing role and position of Indian women during the selected period. To the best of my knowledge, there is no such an exclusive research which may explain women during colonial period. There is no single book which may tell us about changing role and position of Indian women from colonial period to after independence. There are monographs which deals with the position of Indian women in particular period of Indian history but no work has as yet been written which reviews their changing role and position throughout the history of colonial period to 1950.The study has been carried out on the basis of primary sources, such as contemporary writings, newspapers, journals, proceedings of various political organizations, socio-religious organizations and women bodies, Administrative reports, District Gazetteers, Home Department Political Records, Reports on the native newspapers, Reports on the Progress of Education in India, Census Reports available in various archives and libraries. All the concerned sources have been studied and examined analytically keeping in mind strictly the research methodology of our disciplin
