dc.description.abstractvi newlineABSTRACT newlineIn the power systems, Unit Commitment (UC) has emerged as a vital newlinecomponent for research and also is a significant optimization work in everyday newlineexecuting and functioning of the contemporary power systems which are newlineadapted to let in regular modification of the standard generation unit plans. In newlineterms of power production, wind energy seems an efficiently renewable and newlineclean energy source of power generation. Several storage techniques are used newlinefor excess wind power generation such as Compressed Air, Fly Wheel, Flow newlineBatteries and Pumped Hydro Storage (PHS). In these storage techniques a newlinePHS unit is suitable for lower hourly wind curtailment and the system fuel cost. newlineIn this research,UC is an optimization problem for determining the newlineprocess plan at hourly recess with differing loads under varying constraints and newlineenvironment.The primary aim is to apply bio-inspired heuristics to the problems newlineunder consideration and identify the most suitable algorithm in terms of optimal newlinesolution and robustness. newlineThis thesis reports a coordination strategy with thermal-wind and PHS newlineunits for Unit Commitment problem using evolutionary search techniques like newlineParticle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique, Artificial Fish Swarm Algorithm newline(AFSA) method, Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA) method and Gravitational newlineSearch Algorithm (GSA) method. newlineIn this operation planning process, in order to provide a solution to unit newlinecommitment issue, an algorithm built on PSO which is inhabitants built newlineuniversal search and optimization method is developed. Wind power is obtained newlinefrom the forecasted real time wind data and Pumped Hydro Storage power newlineoutput is taken from the real time data of the PHS power plant. It is verified on newlinestandard 6 bus and IEEE 118 bus system. Many hybrid methods are a blend of newlinetwo or many meta-heuristic methods. The second part of the work is the newlinecoordination strategy using Artificial Fish Swarm Algorithm.
