A Study on Impact of Personality on Career Preference for Young Adults of Saurashtra Region

Abstract

Young adults are highly vulnerable and hence lack of adequate knowledge about themselves and career options might lead to inappropriate career selection at the end. The present study revolves around personality and career preference of the young adults. The study provides insight on how personality influences career preference of young adults in saurashtra region. 556 young adults from different districts of saurashtra have been considered for the study. They were questioned about their personality traits and career preference. Personality traits were measured using IPIP scale. Research suggested that among the five factor personality traits agreeableness and conscientiousness were found to be significantly related with career preference. Career preference was also affected by demographic factors like gender, education, occupation, age, annual income and geographical zone. The results can provide useful insight to educators for assessing career preference of the students. It can also be useful to check the person job fit by measuring the personality of the employees and associating it with job.
