dc.description.abstractThe present study is about the quotAn economic analysis of vegetable farming: A case study of Bathinda districtquot. It is a pragmatic study based on primary data which is collected through field work .The main objectives of the study are to (1) To examine growth performance of vegetable cultivation in Bathinda (2) To analysis cost and benefits of vegetable farming (3) To find out problems and perspectives of vegetable farming. To know the participation of farmer in different villages many interviews were conducted with the farmers of Bathinda district. The main focus of the study is of major nine vegetable crops Potato, onion, garlic, cauliflower, brinjal, peas, pumpkin, tomato and chilies. In the first chapter introduction of vegetable farming in Bathinda is given. Detailed analysis regarding total area under vegetable farming in Bathinda has been done. Highest area was under potato crop 6500Hec.)and lowest area was under peas crop 95 (Hec). The present study was an attempt to measure growth performance of vegetable crops and it also analyzed the trends in area and production of vegetable crops. In this study the growth rate of different crops has been checked on year by year base method., Highest growth rate remained under potato crops and lowest growth rate was of the area under peas crops. This study finds out cost and benefits of different vegetable crops. With the help of questionnaire detailed analysis of cost and benefits of major vegetable crops have been done. In the cost and benefits Analysis, total cost and net return of each commercial and vegetable crop have calculated. The present study showed that vegetable farming is very much beneficial in this area. The net returns from vegetable crops are higher in comparison to other traditional commercial crops. newlineIn this work, it was discussed that Bathinda district farmers also faced problems in the case of production and marketing of vegetable crops.
