Abstract: In the mass transportation segment and for stationary power generation which operates on diesel engines, emissions pose a severe threat. Although biodiesels from different resources are considered as an alternative, the problem of increased NO and smoke emission would become a considerable barrier for its widespread use. Number of second and third generation biofuels have been tested in CI engine by many researchers. Among the different biodiesels tested, Jatropha biodiesel exhibits reasonably good characteristics such as higher Cetane. The plant resources are also available in plenty in India newline
