Abstract: | People with visual impairment occupy a great portion of the society. They undergo physical, newlinesocial and emotional issues in their day-to-day lives. However, they are able to attain great heights newlinewith the utilization of their unimpaired senses and body parts. Along with their efforts to lead newlineindependent lives, the role of fellow human beings and assistive technologies support their ventures. newlineFive novels written by five different American writers have been chosen to analyse the newlinecondition of the visually impaired people. Barriers faced by the visually impaired, their efforts in newlineleading independent lives and human and technological assistance are examined in the core chapters newlinewith the help of the theories such as: Deviance Theory, Theory of Complex Embodiment and Actor newlineNetwork Theory. newlineThe thesis is a gradual investigation of the journey of visually impaired persons from their newlinegloomy lives to their supremacy in terms of their achievements. It intends to bring out the social, newlinephysical and emotional barriers faced by the visually impaired people. The research also studies the newlinepossible means by which these people come out of their barriers and access education, employment newlineand other amenities like health, and progress in their lives with the help of their other sensory organs, newlinefellow human beings and assistive technologies. The thesis also proposes some recommendations newlinewhich would facilitate the progress of visually impaired people. It is indeed true that great strides have newlinebeen made to make them inclusive and to make the world more accessible for people with disabilities newlineespecially, the visually impaired people newlinei) Major objectives : newline1.
