Formulation of Anticancer Herbal Drug and their Pharmacognostical and Pharmacological Evaluation

Abstract

Euphoria longan leaves were selected for the present study based on its traditional claim as an antioxidant and anti glycated activity .The plant Euphoria longan belongs to the family Sapindaceae. Euphoria longan were authenticated, pharmacognostical, physico chemical and phytochemical analysis were carried out and HPTLC confirmed presence of flavonoids,glycosides, tannins saponins. Quantification method reported the amount of quercetin present in Euphoria longan. Preformulation studies showed good cohesive properties. After preformulation studies it was decided to prepare direct compression by wet granulation method and the compressed tablet were evaluated. The value obtained signifies that the drug release follows first order kinetics. The data presented here indicate that the plant would be useful as an antioxidant activity and free radical scavenging agent. The biochemical and histological studies showed the formulated tablet of the Euphoria longan leaves possess significant anticancer activity against DLA induced in mice. In the conclusion, Euphoria longan leaves were effective in inhibiting the tumor growth in ascitic and solid tumor models. newline
