Abstract: | In a deregulated environment, the electric power system is restructured for introducing competition among the participants of the market and for increasing various competitive opportunities. The Independent System Operator (ISO) performer a major role in deregulated power system which is the central entity having the responsibility of security and reliability of the power system. It is also having the responsibility of market settlement which newlineincludes scheduling and dispatch, transmission system management which newlineincludes the transmission pricing and security aspects.This thesis is mainly concerned with Congestion Management (CM) and social welfare maximization in a deregulated power system. The transmission network provides the infrastructure to facilitate the power supply between two locations. This power flow in the transmission network is limited by different transfer limits like stability limit, thermal limit, voltage limit etc.When such limit is reached the network is said to be congested. In deregulated power system a biggest challenge is the CM, as the system operator has to keep the line flows within the limit. newline newline |
