dc.description.abstractLiver cirrhosis is a complex disease of the liver has an impact on the patient s health status and elevates mortality and morbidity rate Alcohol intake being a major risk factor can be controlled through counselling and education This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of multipronged interventions on anxiety Health related Quality of Life, severity of alcohol use and selective liver biochemistry among patients with Liver cirrhosis A Randomized Controlled Trial design was used among 200 male patients with cirrhosis of liver admitted in the medical wards of a selected General Hospital with 100 samples allocated to study and control group Multipronged interventions consisted of counselling and educational sessions along with open group discussion with the subjects The pre test and the post test I 4 weeks after intervention and II 12 weeks after intervention were collected using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale HRQoL Chronic liver disease questionnaire and Modified WHO Alcohol dependence tool to measure Severity of alcohol use and the Biochemical variables namely SGOT Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase and SGPT( Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase There was significant improvement in the mean scores of HRQoL from 102 point 89 to 129 point 07 reduction in anxiety 22 point 51 to 13 point 71 severity of alcohol use 17 point 27 to 6 point 93 and positive change in SGOT 107 point 27 to 63 point 90 and SGPT 56 point 11 to 42 point 88 in the study group, compared to control group HRQoL 107 point 89 to 103 point 49 Anxiety 21 point 45 to 21 point 25 severity of alcohol use 16 point 67 to 10 point 01 SGOT 109 point 27 to 91 point 84 and SGPT 57 point 36 to 51 point 27 respectively at p less than 0 point 001 The multipronged interventions had an impact in reducing the anxiety control of alcohol intake thereby improving the QoL newline
