Synthesis and characterization of clay multiwalled carbon nanotubes MWNT reinforced castor oil based hybrid polyurethane nanocomposite

Abstract

The present work focused on studies entitled Synthesis and Characterization of Clay/MWNTs reinforced castor oil based hybrid polyurethane nanocomposites . The work emphasizes the use of renewable raw material castor oil to replaced petrochemical-based polyols for the synthesis of hybrid polyurethane nanocomposites. With the increase of environmental concern, the new perception of integrating green technology with other upcoming technology is encouraged. Due to the low thermal stability of pure polyurethanes, they were reinforced using hybridizing fillers, clay and multiwalled carbon nanotubes. The multiwalled carbon nanotubes were modified using covalent functionalization for the better dispersion of MWCNTs into the nanocomposite. The synthesized hybrid nanocomposites were studied for their morphological, mechanical, and thermal properties to explore their potential as flame retardancy materials. newline
