Abstract: Yoga being the age old Indian method of healthy life is very effective in reducing fat in human beings. Keeping in view the benefits of Yoga in maintaining health and fitness present research work has been conducted on 30 obese females of 30 to 40 years of age group. These females had bmi heigher than normal range of 18 to 25. for this cross sectional study all subjects were randomly divided in to two groups. control and experimental group. these groups were further evaluated as pre and post experimental groups to check effect of Suryanamaskar and Pranayama on obesity. Parameters taken for the study were height(cm), weight(kg), bmi, % body fat with brozec equation. results obtained showed that height has no statistical difference in control vs experimental groups and in pre and post experimental groups, becouse height is not a changeable variable. in case of weight (kg), bmi, sum of four skin folds and % body fat results obtained showed statistical non significant differences in experimental and control groups on day 1. When results of these variables were statistically evaluated before and after the experiment statistically significant differences were obtained in sum of four skin fold, % body fat whereas in case of bmi variable non significant differences were obtained. these findings showed firstly that bmi is not a true factor to check loss in % body fat . because it may be that weight reduced due to fat loss was compensated by weight gain due to muscle mass, which is an indicator of good health. secondly, Yoga is the perfect way to reduce % body fat and inch loss and to gain good muscle weight. This study shoed that yoga has additional benefits of good mental health too. this study can further be extended on males also. newline
