Library Human Resource Management In Selected Academic Institutions In Chennai An Evaluative Study

Abstract

HRM is planning, organizing, directing and controlling the procurement, development, compensation, integration, maintenance and separation of human resources to the end that individual, organizational and social objectives are accomplished. The large libraries are headed by the Chief Librarian. Each unit such as users setvces department; technical services department ; maintenance department; administration department, etc. are headed by the Deputy Librarians. Each department is further divided into two or three sections namely: acquisition; periodical; classification; cataloguing; indexing abstracting; clipping; translation; online searching; circulation; reference service; binding; etc. these sections are headed by the Assistant Librarians. In the Academic institutions library human resource management has a vital role to perform in the effective function the library. So, proper human resource practices may influence the employees, job satisfaction and job involvement. This will ensure the full co-operation and support of the employer and employees who will then regard the library as their own. newline
