dc.description.abstractThe police are the foremost agency responsible for creation of society. To attain newlinethis goal police need to prevent and investigate crime; prosecute criminals and newlinemaintain law and order. To achieve the desired results police need public newlinecooperation and support. Public perception of police is based on the degree of newlinepublic confidence and respect towards the police. The present study aimed at the newlineexamining the confidence and effectiveness of police performance in three newlinesouthern states of India. The study was conducted among 800 citizens from the newlinethree southern states of India i.e.; Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana newlineState using intercept and door-to-door type of personal interview with a single newlineshot cross sectional survey design method. A set of questionnaires were used for newlinethe current study. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. newlineThe results revealed that there was a significant difference in the public newlineperception of police performance in three southern states of India.
