Abstract: | This research work ventures Parameter Improved Particle Swarm Optimization (PIPSO) tuned direct current vector controlled Grid Connected-Voltage Source Inverter (GC-VSI) for the integration of solar PV power in an AC utility grid. The test system features two power converters namely, PV side converter and GC-VSI with the proposed optimal control strategy. The PV side converter consists of Peak Current Mode (PCM) controlled DC-DC boost converter with Perturb and Observe (PandO) Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control to harvest maximum power from the PV array. A non-linear time domain analysis comparison was performed using simulation with conventional incremental conductance algorithm with PandO aiming to obtain the optimal duty cycle. The grid side conventional direct current vector control mechanism for GC-VSI works properly, only if the DC link capacitor voltage is within the reference limit. The performance becomes poor if the DC link capacitor voltage exceeds beyond the reference limit and also during the seamless transition of different operating modes that are considered.
