Abstract: | In the world of literature, Indian writing in English occupies a renowned position. It is mainly due to the fact that Indian women writers are very remarkable in performing their roles as eminent writers. Most of the Indian writers with great effort have successfully presented their views on the feminism in their works. Also, a lot of Indian women novelists have influenced Indian life and society with their exclusive thoughts on feminism in a realistic way. They focus mainly on the anguish of women in the male-dominated society and expect women to overwhelm the domination by their self-identity through which they can find consolation in their lives. Though there are other themes which are quite popular, predominantly, Indian women writers pivot on the major concept of the role of women in the society and their struggle in their marital lives. It is because that India is a land which is rich in tradition and culture. And Indian women consider marriage as a rebirth to any woman. Women undergo a myriad of physiological and psychological changes after marriage. Moreover, the society demands forbearance, adjustment and self-sacrifice from women. Hence, women are not afforded an opportunity to fulfill their wishes and accomplish their goals after marriage. Even though women are knowledgeable and economically independant, they depend upon men of several relationships like spouse, father, son or brother to survive peacefully in the society. In this background, the role of feminist literature is the most distinguishing perspective of the contemporary Indian English fiction. Feminism means article or work written by women novelists who have given voice to the women belonging to the tradition-bound and male dominated society. The women novelists express the sufferings, longings and determination of different generations of women who are in the quest for self-identity. newline |
