Abstract: Lakes are, a valuable source of water for drinking, domestic uses, agriculture, industries, etc. Lakes are an important part of the urban ecosystem and play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance. But the lake water quality is declining due to environmental perturbations which threatens the stability of the biotic integrity and therefore obstructs the ecosystem services. Looking at the importance of lakes, Parakai Lake is located in the southern part of the Kanyakumari District, in the state of TamilNadu. The Parakai Lake has newlineLatitude - - ted at one end of the Pazhayar river and it is one of the system tanks having the storage capacity of 1.1590 Mm3. The lake which fed the water to the irrigation fields having an area of 277.99 ha. But the lake water gets polluted due to the disposal of untreated wastewater from the surrounding area. This contaminated water is used for domestic and irrigation purposes. On the significance of the environmental and health risks, the current study emphases subordinate with the use of polluted lake water. The water quality is determined by analyzing the physico-chemical parameters of lake water for domestic water usage and also have been analyzed for irrigation water quality. The water quality seasonal deviation is determined in the four seasons, namely southwest monsoon, northeast monsoon, winter and summer season by the use of a box-whisker diagram. The outcomes show that, in the summer season the concentration of the water quality parameter is higher compared to the other season due to domestic wastewater is the only source of water inlet into the lake. newline newline
