Abstract: Diabetes Mellitus is one of the global health issues under Non communicable Diseases. WHO encourages the traditional medicines to establish the safe and effective drug for the management of diabetes. Health research organizations like ICMR, encourage the research on Diabetes. All the ingredients in Aavaarai vidhai chooranam are purely herbal. It is a combination of medicinal plants. This makes the drug multifunctional and reduces blood sugar level in diabetes patients. The results of the present study confirmed that the Aavaarai vidhai chooranam complies to prescribed standards of chooranam. The results of the acute and sub-acute toxicity study of AVC were found safe, thereby ensuring the safety of the Aavaarai vidhai chooranam in experimental animal models. The pharmacological screening has shown that the study drug has anti-diabetic activity in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. In the clinical study, it was observed that the patients treated with Aavaarai vidhai chooranam established the reduction of HbA1c, fasting blood sugar and post prandial blood sugar. Among the study population, it was observed that there is better reduction of HbA1c, fasting blood sugar and post prandial blood sugar in newly diagnosed patients than known diabetic patients less than 5 years duration. Among the study population, it was observed that there was mean reduction in serum insulin level for those who have hyperinsulinemia. It indicates that this study drug may increase the Insulin sensitivity and reduce the insulin resistance. If any diabetic patient takes AVC, there is no need to take iron, zinc, calcium, ascorbic acid, and protein and flavonoids supplements to maintain their health and to prevent diabetic complications because AVC naturally contains all these compounds. The clinical trial has shown that Aavaarai vidhai chooranam is effective and safe in treating NIDDM patients. The study drug, Aavaarai vidhai chooranam, is found to be cost effective and safe in the management of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM). newline
