Isolation purification and characterization of antimicrobial peptides from selected Indian medicinal plants

Abstract

The Knottin type antimicrobial peptide (MoCh I) of 3.7kDa was isolated and characterized from Momordica charantia (Karela) seeds. The MoCh I peptide was found to be active against grampositive bacteria and had non-hemolytic properties. The novel MoCh I peptide has a potential to be developed as drug moiety for the treatment of pathogenic infections. The small size and multifarious action of MoCh I lead to strong penetrating power in the microorganism s membrane making it more potent candidate for drug development. newline
