Abstract: The Knottin type antimicrobial peptide (MoCh I) of 3.7kDa was isolated and characterized from Momordica charantia (Karela) seeds. The MoCh I peptide was found to be active against grampositive bacteria and had non-hemolytic properties. The novel MoCh I peptide has a potential to be developed as drug moiety for the treatment of pathogenic infections. The small size and multifarious action of MoCh I lead to strong penetrating power in the microorganism s membrane making it more potent candidate for drug development. newline
