Abstract: | newline The increase in population, rapid growth in the industrialisation and augmented human living standards have increased the importance and usage of Internal Combustion engines. At present, gasoline and diesel are used as the primary fuels for spark ignition and compression ignition engines respectively. During combustion, a considerable amount of pollutant emissions such as oxides of nitrogen (NOx), unburnt hydrocarbon (HC), carbon monoxide (CO) and smoke are emitted from the engine. The emissions from the internal combustion engine combustion cause several environmental issues, such as air pollution, global warming and acid rain. Also, the continuous inhalation of the exhaust emissions could cause serious health issues to the human beings, such as, respiratory problems, cardiovascular effects, vision problems, reduction in manual dexterity, dizziness, and nausea. Therefore, stringent emission standards were introduced to reduce the exhaust emitted from engines. The growth in industrialisation and transportation have continuously increases the fuel demand. Meeting the high fuel demand for fuel is a major challenge for many developing countries like India. newline newline |
