Abstract: newline Mobile Ad-hoc network is a self-configuring network which creates an arbitrary network of mobile nodes. In this network, all mobile nodes can be linked dynamically when required without any centralized control. Energy consumption and performance of MANET are affected by the mobility of nodes. It is essential to investigate the impact of mobility on energy consumption in routing protocols to choose the appropriate routing protocol, mobility model and energy model for deployment in MANET. In present thesis, an attempt has been made the investigate the impact of mobility on energy consumption and performance of various MANET routing protocols namely AODV, DSR, DYMO, OLSR, Bellman Ford and ZRP using RWP and Group mobility models; and Generic, Mica Motes and MicaZ energy models with varying node density and mobility speed. It has clearly observed from the simulation results that mobility has adverse effect on energy consumption and performance of the routing protocols. Chapter-I is introductory and provides overview of various routing protocols. Chapter-II shows the various studies carried out in the related field. Chapter-III presents the research methodology adopted in the study. In Chapter-IV, simulation design and implementation is presented. Chapter-V contains the detailed data analysis and interpretation. It presents the simulation results in terms of Average Throughput, Average End to End Delay, Average Jitter and consumed energy in various modes with varying mobility speed and node density under the RWP and Group mobility models; and Generic, Mica Motes and MicaZ energy models. Chapter-VI concludes the results achieved in various network scenarios. Overall, AODV routing protocol performs well in term of energy consumption and other performance metrics. Energy consumption is lowest with Mica Motes energy model and Group mobility supports all MANET routing protocols in terms of performance metrics.
