Abstract: | Water is a vital constituent for all system of life. In man, as in other higher animals, its most important function depends on its unique properties as a mode of transport for heat and chemical substances and its efficiency as a coolant for evaporation. Due to drastic increase of populace development and the expanded needs of farming and industries, water has become a basic factor factor in numerous areas. The pollution of water caused by poisonous heavy metal ions has been a foremost cause of concern for theearth. Commercial and household wastewater cause numerous damages to the newlineenvironment and influencing the strength of the general population. In order to protect the environment, the removal of poisonous heavy metal ions from contaminated wastewater is therefore important.A variety of methods have been developed for the elimination of metal ions from contaminated wastewater like precipitation, reverse osmosis, electro dialysis, adsorption, ion exchange, ultrafiltration and ion flotation techniques. Among them, adsorption is one of the uncomplicated and cost effective method. A variety of adsorbents with highly selective and adsorption capacity have been studied such as activated carbon, low cost waste materials, mineral based adsorbents, clay, saw dust, fly ash and ion exchange resins. Theion exchange resins have played a major role in the removal and recovery of heavy metal ions. newline newline |
