Rapid advancement in technologies has paved path for sophisticated life. Such advancement has influenced the electric grid to become smart grid by incorporating bidirectional electricity and data flow in a more reliable and sustainable way. Such a smart grid requires an efficient Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for withstanding various issues addressed by the traditional electrical grid technology. Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) will be an ideal candidate for providing secured and reliable ICT for Smart Grids. This thesis work proposes two modules of ICT for Smart Grid technology. First one is WSN based control strategy that could be adopted in Smart grids for ensuring reliability and efficient monitoring system. This module will be helpful in controlling the behavior of Smart grid at various scenarios and also to effectively monitor the parameters associated with smart grid technology. This system acts as a controlling and monitoring system of the electrical grid. Though the system is not a self-healable one but can avoid the problems that may occur due to malfunctioning of the grid like over/under voltage protection which is unavailable in the traditional electrical grid. WSN acts as a monitoring system that can monitor various parameters related to the normal operation of the grid. The second and final module of this work focuses on a packet scheduling phenomenon that has been adopted in WSN for data transmission with enabled two-level queue for efficient aggregation of data packets with and without priority. This module replaces the traditional WSN packet scheduling schemes like FCFS (First Come First Served), pre emptive and non pre emptive packet scheduling schemes. Compared to other multilevel queue systems the proposed work focuses on reducing the end to end delay and also avoids the deadlock stage from occurrence and thereby increasing the throughput of the system. newline
