Abstract: | With the increased usage of number of devices using Internet of Things (IoT) it is imperative for IoT devices to be connected to an architecture that provides seamless integration of services from one end to another end. The future is set to see a phenomenal growth in the number of IoT devices to 34 billion devices connected to the internet by 2020, up from 10 billion in 2015 .THE LONG-TERM evolution LTE systems becomes the best partner to match the service requirements for the same. However, with the advent growth in the number of IoT devices the signaling overhead in the IoT systems will grow exponentially. This will in turn increase the signaling overhead in the LTE systems. The existing protocol stack of the LTE systems is not best suited to handle the increased signaling traffic that is created by the IoT systems because of the number of exchanges between the transmitter and receiver. In this thesis, an effective protocol stack for handling the IoT traffic in LTE is proposed. Special focus to developing an exclusive protocol stack which could include the IoT traffic in the LTE systems is proposed. The thesis first addresses the various limitations of the existing protocol stack and proposes a novel protocol stack to accommodate the IoT traffic in LTE systems. A novel queuing model based scheduling scheme is also proposed to overcome the limitations of the existing scheduling schemes and also to include the proposed protocol stack newline |
