Abstract: Mobile Adhoc Networks (MANETs) are infrastructure less in nature where they have been applied in wide range of applications such as, rescue operations, emergency, disaster management and so on. However, the nodes in MANETs move randomly and frequently leave or join the network due to its dynamic topological behavior. Achieving security in MANET is a hard task due to its dynamic movement of nodes in the network. When compared to fixed wired networks, security mechanisms are highly required by the mobile adhoc networks because of the entry of attackers that are intruding the network activities using subverted nodes. The main aim of this research work is to design a trust based attack detection mechanism for detecting and preventing attacking nodes from the routes to enhance secure communication among the nodes in an effective way. To achieve this goal, a trust based routing mechanisms in MANETs is designed into three phases. A novel Trust based Energy Aware Routing (TEAR) mechanism is proposed in the first phase for MANETs. The most important characteristics of TEAR mechanism is that it mitigates BHs through the dynamic generation of multiple detection routes to detect the BHs quickly as possible and provides better data route security by obtaining the nodal trust. More significantly, the TEAR mechanism can effectively handle both the creation and sharing of these multi detection routes for the detection of BHs. Essentially, these multi detection routes in TEAR mechanism are generated by wholly utilizing the energy in non-hotspots (i.e. without wasting the energy) to improve the energy efficiency and desired data route security. The TEAR mechanism highly optimizes the lifespan of network by avoiding the black hole attacks and drastically increasing the probability of successful data routing newline
