Abstract: | Increasing energy demand due to rapid industrialization and accelerating population generates more interest in searching for an alternate energy. Biodiesel, the most promising alternative biofuel is biodegradable, sustainable, clean-burning, and nontoxic transportation fuel. It can be commercially produced from various non-edible oil sources by oil extraction method, catalyst, transesterification reaction, and energy consumption. The environmental factors plays an important role in sustainable biodiesel production and minimizing the production cost. In this study, biodiesel was produced from two different sources, castor and Calophyllum inophyllum seeds. Bio-oil extraction from the seeds were carried out by ultrasonic-assisted binary solvent, their optimum conditions and maximum yield were determined. Different combination of binary solvents Diethyl ether:Ethanol, Chloroform:Methanol, Isopropanol: Methanol were used in the oil extraction. The response surface methodology was used for the optimization of various parameters for maximum extraction of oil. The transesterification of oil using zinc doped calcium oxide nanocatalyst derived from waste plaster of paris was investigated. The best optimal conditions of biodiesel conversions were obtained with response surface methodology at four input variables methanol to oil ratio, time, temperature and catalyst concentration. The green chemistry parameters, carbon efficiency, atom economy, reaction mass efficiency, stoichiometric factor and environmental factors were optimized. The central composite design was used for process optimization newline |
